Why Moms Need A Slow Living Practice

Have you ever thought “If i could only have more time, more money, more freedom then…”? There are a million reasons why adding a slow living practice as a mom is beneficial, so I’ll try to cover as many as possible here.

First off, What is Slow Living?

Slow living involves creating harmony and balance within your life. It’s essential to add intentional choices into your daily routine so that you can add purpose and meaning into your days. Slow living creates space for you to have more free time and financial freedom. It fosters happiness and inner peace into your days. The beauty of it is that the practice can be shaped into your life however you need it to. There’s no one size fits all. Learn the tools and shape it into whatever you need.

Common Misconceptions about Slow Living:

  • You have to be a SAHM in order to practice
  • It’s impossible to practice since I’m so busy
  • I don’t live off-grid/I’m not a homesteader
  • It’s only for lazy and unmotivated people
  • I have multiple children, there’s no way this will work for me

These are comments I receive all the time, and I’m here to tell you that slow living is for everyone. There isn’t a perfect life you need to have in order for the benefits to show.

So, Why is Slow Living Important for Motherhood?

I’m so glad you asked!

If you’re a mom, you know all the changes and challenges it can bring. Slow living bridges the gap between the hard vs. easy days which increases daily enjoyment.

Here are some reasons why slow living for moms is so important:

1. It helps foster your relationship to yourself and allows you to embrace the mom role

Slow living helped me find myself in motherhood. I know it’s common to feel a loss of identity (& if this is you then click here to read some tips about feeling this way) but, with learning the slow living practices I embraced being a mom head on. Through intentional choices and living in the present I found who I was always meant to be.

2. Slow living allows your kids to watch you slow down

It’s no secret that your children watch literally everything you do. Our world is chaotic and everyone tends to praise people who hustle and grind all the time. In these hurried times, most people are living in survival mode. We walk around stressed out of our minds and then expect to just keep pushing through. Do you really want this for your child, too? If we slow down and appreciate the small moments in life, then that’s what our children will see and model. It doesn’t need to be any drastic switch from what you’re currently doing. It could simply be choosing less technology time and initiating play with your kids instead. Or having a consistent morning routine where you involve your kids and have them help you make breakfast.

3. It helps you feel confident in your choices as a mom

The satisfaction that comes with leading a slow living lifestyle is unmatched. Your newfound connection with yourself will give you the confidence to stand by your choices, even with all the unwanted opinions out there. If you scroll on social media less, then you’ll compare yourself less. If you take the small moments and appreciate them throughout the day, then you’ll spend less time dwelling on negative circumstances. If you focus on owning less and being more conscious of your spending choices, you won’t care if your kitchen isn’t renovated or if you don’t buy the expensive baby item. When you feel this confident, you won’t care about anyone else’s opinion.

4. It allows you to heal your inner child

The current new moms are in the generation of breaking toxic cycles. Now I know healing generational trauma won’t happen overnight, but with slow living you can definitely work on it. By making more intentional choices that involve your kids, your inner child can also have fun. Be fluid in your daily routine, remove strictness and perfection. Allow an abundance of fun things to come your way. When you truly enjoy the time spent with your children, you create the space in your life to re-parent/heal yourself. You have the freedom to show your kids the childhood you always wanted.

5. It makes you realize what means the most to you

Now, I know you may be thinking that you already know what’s most important to you. But, ask yourself honestly, do you live out your days in alignment with your list of key things? If your daily routine is too clouded with things that don’t make your list of what you value, then are you spending your precious time accurately? It can be a hard realization because it’s easy to get comfortable. If you hate your job but you’ve been there for 10 years it may not be the easiest thing to switch paths. However, it’s never too late to change your life.

Believe it.

You will be replaced at your job instantly, but no one can replace you as your kids mom.

6. It inspires more conscious choices

The SLOW in slow living stands for Sustainable, Local, Organic, Whole. It inspires you to shop local and organic and possibly even begin creating your own meals from scratch and/or make your own household items. Slow living encourages a healthier way of life.

These are just a few of the positive rewards from shifting into a slow living lifestyle.

Nothing can compare to creating a life you actually want to wake up to.
